Definition of Manga
Manga is the Japanese word for drawings and consists of printed drawings in the Japanese language in book form. Reading manga is a common precedent for people of all ages in Japan with different genres ranging from romance, action, drama to history and pornography.
Definition of Anime
Anime, which rotates from the word ‘animation’ can be defined as a Japanese animated production. Unlike American cartoons, anime is about a majority of subjects and is intended for all age groups, including adults.
Relationship between Anime and Manga
Similar to how books are often brought to life in film and television, manga series are often adapted to episodic anime series and moving pictures. A popular example is the manga Bish & Senshi Sailor Moon, created by Naoko Takeuchi and later adapted into the animated television series Sailor Moon, a franchise that achieved international success.
Artwork
Although each artist has a distinct style, there are some elements that distinguish manga and anime from a simple cartoon. Common forms in manga and anime drawings can be recognized in a character’s exaggerated characteristics such as large and expressive eyes, glamorous hair and lively body types.
History
In the early 20th century, when Japanese filmmakers began experimenting with animation techniques, the term ‘anime’ was born. In the 1960s, Osamu Tezuka, now known as ‘The Manga of God’, adapted Western animation techniques used by Disney and inspired many of the features still used in art today. Since its invention in the early 20th century, the popularity of anime and manga has increased worldwide. Although there is a strong relationship between manga and anime, they are not the same thing.
