1.

Choose a cylindrical oat milk container, large juice or coffee pot or other container that is drum-shaped. Juice containers and coffee beans should be open on one side, and sharp edges should be covered with masking tape or filed. Remove the lid from the oatmeal container and discard it. This container will form the basis of the drums.

2.

Cut a circle of waxed paper that is 2 inches larger in diameter than the open end of the container or jar. This material will form the surface of the drum which is beaten with the sticks. Waxed paper is both strong and gives a good sound when hit. You can also use lightweight vinyl fabric or even brown paper bag material. Make drums with different materials for different sounds.

3. Pull the waxed paper or other material over the open end of the drum cylinder and hold it firmly with the large rubber band. Make sure that the top is tight over the opening without any wrinkles or creases. The rubber band should be large enough to hold the paper tightly. You can also use masking tape or other type of strong tape.

4.

Cut out a piece of construction paper in a size needed to cover the entire outside of the cylinder drum shape. You can easily measure this by rolling the cylinder on the sheet of paper and marking the edges with a pencil. Has your child cut this nicely with scissors. You can also use brown paper bag, sticky contact paper or even materials to cover the drum for children.

5.

Decorate one side of the building paper drum cover with more colored paper, sequins, trimmer, narrow strings, yarn, glitter or any other attractive decoration that your children prefer. Make a classic drum pattern by gluing on diagonal lines of thread, yarn or a contrasting color on paper around the drum cover.

6. the outside of the drum. Be sure to stick over the rubber band and the edge of the sharp paper drum surface. Allow the drum to dry completely before playing. Two blurry pencils make excellent drums, although your child can also use chopsticks or other small chopsticks.

Tips and warnings

  • Do not let your child hit the drum is too hard, or the waxed paper will rip.
