History

Gretsch was founded in 1883 by Friedrich Gretsch. The company initially focused on drums, banjos and tambourines, but shortly after releasing its first electric guitar in 1939, Gretsch began to focus its efforts on drums and guitars.

Types of gretsch guitars

Gretsch is widely known for hollow body electric guitars, but it also produces a wide range of solid body guitars, acoustic guitars and basses. Some of the most famous models are the Falcon series guitars, Duo Jet guitars, Rancher acoustic guitars and their many artist signature models.

Famous Gretsch players

Gretsch guitars have a reputation for excellent tone and smooth playability. Many famous guitarists have played Gretschs over the years, including Brian Setzer, Chet Atkins, George Harrison, Bo Diddly and Jimmy Vaughn. Gretsch guitars are high quality musical instruments that are currently manufactured and distributed by Fender Musical Instruments Corporation. Despite their affiliation with Fender, Gretsch guitars have their own unique look and sound that sets them apart from other guitars.
